Salvete frates!
Here is my subarmalis and my leather vest:
The subarmalis is made from four layers of linen (two on the outside, two on the inside) and three layers of thick wool. Pteryges are linen strips folded and sewn so that each pteryge has four layers. The body part is quilted. The subarmalis has fastenings on both sides, so when you unfasten it you can use it to sleep on (it is about 1.5 m long).
I think that this subarmalis could be used in a real battle 8) (of course, we fight with blunt weapons, although steel ones; we want some safety after all).
My leather vest was made by a local leatherworker, and it was a bit more expensive, considering how small it is (6000 CZK, that is approximately 330 USD). But it was made to measure, and it works really great. Nevertheles, I look (and feel) like a snowman when I wear it all
Best regards,
