Rubicon by Tom Holland - History book or thinly veiled novel
#28
I read it, and I thought it was good. I don't recall any errors, although he spent longer than I would have liked speculating about the cultural significance of fish-farms to Roman gentlemen. A classics professor I know recommended it as an introduction to Republican history, because it is broad ranging and easy to read.

I haven't touched "Persian Fire" due to Jona's review.

I have not checked this forum frequently since 2013, but I hope that these old posts have some value. I now have a blog on books, swords, and the curious things humans do with them.
