Mail vs. arrows - later example

I've put it here simply because it documents the effectiveness of a reed bow with a flint head against Spanish mail and buff jerkin in the New World, provided the archer was well practiced and strong. The Spaniards put this to the test using a captive Floridian (he got the butt end of the deal), and eventually found felt to be the most effective defence.

What's also interesting is how the Native American prepared himself for a shot, and in one of the footnotes describes how three skins thickness of cow leather couldn't protect a horse against a shot, which penetrated three fingers deep into a horse.
