To assist in "translating" common thickness measurements, here are approximate thicknesses in gauge-inches-millimetres for iron:
12 gauge = 0.105"= 2.67 mm
14 gauge = 0.075"= 1.9 mm
16 gauge = 0.06" = 1.5 mm
18 gauge = 0.04" = 1.2 mm
20 gauge = 0.036"= 0.9 mm
Etruscan type Attic helmet found in 2 C BC shipwreck off Spain was 25.5.cm long; 20.2 cm high and 18.5 cm wide, with thickness varying from 0.5 mm- 3.5 mm
The Brigetio Gallic 'G' re-inforced with cross-pieces was 32 cm long;20 cm wide and varying thickness 1-3 mm
