Sometimes when I'm riding in the yard a Icelandic pony trots by. Their stride looks so short and choppy, real characters. I'm not sure how my backside would feel without stirrups on one.
Somehow I've always fancied them for the Scandinavian migration/Viking period. They just seem right.
