Spearhead inscriptions
#1
Just finished burning on and riveting my spearhead back onto my spearshaft (a casualty of our Corbridge event) and I noticed the wonderful black patina from the hot coals.

Strikes me that this would be the ideal backing for the punched inscriptions like this one from the Musem of London, which would then shine through the black.

Also IIRC most of the inscriptions are on the spearshaft and the bottom half of the spearhead itself- which is exactly where the black area is on my spear (the top pointy end stayed shiny as I kept it clear of the coals so that I could pick it up).

Thoughts?
