Dallas Museum of Art, a brief report

Legio IX Hispana put on a demonstration at The Dallas Museum of Art, July 14, 2007 in conjunction with the travelling exhibit: From the Ashes of Vesuvius, In Stabiano

Members from southern California (CEN I HIB) and Texas (CEN III PANONNIANI) were in attendance. It was an excellent opportunity to meet face to face!

We were flown out of SoCal at 430pm on Friday and finally arrived at the Hotel about 1130 Texas time, found a great pub with late night food and some pretty good live music, too much Guinness, up at 7am and demo'd til 430pm, kitted out, packed up, prepped gear for shipment, and made it to the airport by 630, arrived Soal 1030pm... phew!

We met other Roman friends, some didn't make it, bummer, met some folk who folk we knew, even met an old days Legio IX'r from our SCA incarnation...

An exceptionally receptive crowd.. non stop questions, attentive, educated, kids and adults alike... we had a table set up in the main entrance foyer, rugs to stand on (hobnails on polished Texas limestone? Yikes!!), loved it when soldiers perused the Exhibit... its rewarding when folks want to get up close see and touch the gear, especially the tinned segs and historic scutums as well as the other handmade Kit we brought... the new Vexillum, dolabra, nails, leather goods, rope, card woven belts, cast items and so on.

Thanks to the DMA for inviting us!
