Ask them, but you should take a look at the Adamklissi monument, complete with helmets that match found ones. Pteryges are clearly visible on some. All I know is they specifically said seg with pteryges. It's not as if they don't know what they're talking about and probably made it up for the sake of it :wink:

But one incredibly practical reason is the extra protection, in a campaign that saw both helmets and limbs gaining extras to protect the men more than usual.
