surely this comes from the so called Praetorian Relief in the Louvre museum, where all helmets are depicted in this way. There You can even see little decorative symbols at the extensions above of the hinges. The problem, all heads with helmets in the foreground are said to be reconstructions from the 19Th century. But the one helmet in the background looking to the left that is only flat on the stone shows the same extension. I think this relief is the major model for all those Hollywood helmets. Interesting is that the helmet on the relief with the Dacian or German fighter does not show this extension.
