Well done Kurt.
Here a reconstruction of Athenian horsemen high boots from the American journal of archeology.

Here is my new sandal.I used the sole of a touristic sandal I bought here in Greece.Actually it's not complete in these photos...I haven't glued the leather to the sole and the yellow tape is still visible under my toe.It will keep its shape better when finished,I think.Oh!And I'm still one sandaled!Perhaps I should change my user name to Iason Smile
Kallimachos,your's are real shoes!Congratulations! [/img]

Happy new year Stefane and everybody!!!It's really hard to find a clear depiction of a sandal...an option was that of Achilles in the vese with the woonded Patroclos, but found it too light...To be honest,I trusted Connolly and other painters(though I suspect most of them use Connolly as a base) a lot, however I did found a vase with such sandals.this one and one or two others that have some common points

Looking at the metallic fittings and the chrome-tanned leather, I don't think they'll get past the Authenticity Officer, Cristi.

Plato in his "Politeia" I think it is in book B sais that people would work barefeet in summer but they would need shoemakers in winter to protect their feet not from anything else but cold.He also mentions in the same paragraph that they would work nude in summer but they would need clothe makers for the winter. So here is literal evidence that once more it's not just artistic license that vases and sculptures show barefeet and nude men.
