Good photography, too. And the setting is very ambushy. If you put a few Marcomanni in the bushes making furtive sounds and whispered words, it could be very unnerving, couldn't it?

Actually the man holding that dangerous sci-fi flashy weapon was a chief of some German war tribe... (although for these photographs no flash was used, of course)

Open your eyes then!

Ow, that's no good. I can see them from here. Can you open the website [url:3iprxbbs]http://www.legio-xv-primigenia.de[/url]? They are in the 'unterwegs' section, clicking to the 2010 xanten 'ubungslager'.

How long did you get your torches to burn for? A few years ago we made torches by wrapping wax soaked cloth a couple of times around the top ends of sticks. These burned well and gave good light but only lasted about twenty five minutes before the flamable material was exhausted.

This was after the public had gone away, hence the presence of the odd pair of glasses. I'm in there somewhere but I am not sure where. I can see my wife near the back of the picture though, so it is a fairly safe bet to think I was somewhere near her.

These torches were indeed also 'home-made', with a similar method as you describe. I don't remember how long they lasted, but I remember I was astonished by the length, so it surely must be over 25 minutes. I think that photoshoot alone could easily have taken 25 minutes already, not to mention we used them to light the encampment with them afterwards. Must be up to an hour or even more. I also think they did some trial versions with different types of wax, cloth, etc before to see what works best. But I certainly don't remember any prober details.
