Show here your Roman soldier impression
I was equipped as an archer, my fellow climbers were equipped as light infantry with spear and small shield. Two carried axes, one a spatha (as did I), and Jamie wore scale armour (which I think he regretted ...).

We climbed from Hardknott Roman fort to the top of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. We did it last Saturday.
BTW Theodosius, I was admiring your wonderful photo here. Where was it shot? Also - why a red tunic as opposed to the white we see alot of in the Amerini mosaics?
Paul Elliott/Caius Fortunatus
The Last Legionary
This book details the lives of Late Roman legionaries garrisoned in Britain in 400AD. It covers everything from battle to rations, camp duties to clothing.

Well, I have posted my impression early on here before, but the image wasn't good at all, so here is an updated one that is a lot clearer.
Saw your site and the other pictures - awesome! How did the gear hold up? Can you tell us a bit more about marching/climbing with spear, shield and spatha?
Valete,
Ave, Mithras.
I shot it at a secluded spot in Northern California along an irrigation system. It's located at a water purification station.
I have a white version of my Late tunic, but red's my favorite color .
Ave guys,
Thanks so much for your compliments! Theodosius, yes, my clavii and orbiculi are made of woven wool tapestry. It was the nearest thing I could find locally to something that the late Romans might have used. It has geometric and some floral-like patterns in it. Your impression looks awesome as well!
Hi Robert, no, I think my next project and acquisition will be my spear, a heavy thrusting hasta. After that, I think I will try to tackle the mail shirt.
Lucius Aurelius Metellus, draconarius, Secunda Brittanica
Edited by: Lucius Aurelius Metellus at: 2/8/05 2:32 am

You need a padded felt or wool undergarment to wear under your hamata. Forget about pterugae or the like, but do it as long as your hamata is.
If good weather does not come soon, you will need it at Segeda!
It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Yes Aitor, It'll be freaking cold there! I dunno how to make it!

Yes, I think it as a barbarian influence, as well as my clipeus, where on the rear side I have few words on ancient runic alphabet (simply WOTAN and the rune ELWAZ, and in latin the sentence FORTUNA IVAT AVDACES..., an analogy of the period sincretism... all in my shield!)
