An a good occasion to ask Holger about that replica belt he made, very similar to the Rhenen one, reconstructing the decorative stitching on the leather, which was partially preserved on the original. Where the heck is that marvelous find published? <br>

This is my Roman Soldier Impression-with a sense of humor. I made this 16" high papier mache' model when I was a junior in high school for an extra credit project for Latin class: you guessed it-on the Roman Army. <br>

My primary source was a book (now out of print) by Flavius Vegetius Renatus called "De Re Militarii" (My Roman surname "Vegetia" was taken after this author).<br>
I realize now that much of the uniform is not historically correct or in proportion, but what the heck-I was only 16-and my sources back then were quite limited. I just HAD to share.<br>
So here is "Minutus", after a book by Mika Waltari called "The Roman".<br>

A question:Is the white tunica in fact correct for a miles? I always thought that red was reserved for the higher ranks, or even the Praetorian Guard, which is why I used white. <p></p><i></i>

I think tunica color is one of those subjects that everyone has an opinion on but no one knows for certain. From what I've gather during my time here, it's one of those subjects to avoid<br>

Yes, the helmet is a deepeeka one, it took just few hours to fix it. The brass boss is big enough so my hand is quite free inside. Could it be the size of a cavalryman or standart bearer shield?<br>

Nice choice of fabric and trim on the tunica-and you look very handsome. I really like the color also-a nice departure from commercially available tunics (EEEEEK!) that are colored an unnatural red that can only be produced chemically. Interesting that in Italy, (and perhaps many other parts of Europe) leg wrappings were used for centuries afterwards by shepherds.<br>
