Salvete!

On behalf of the ISPA and The Legionaries and Supporters of Legio VI Ferrata Fidelas Constans I would like to formally invite you to our Third annual Castra Romana, November 4-6, 2005. This event will be held at Givhans State Park in South Carolina. Knowing it is a bit of a drive for most, we are pulling out all the stops (including lots of new stuff!!) to make this an experience you will not want to miss, and will never forget!

While this event will be advertised and open to the public, our primary goal is to provide a unique experience to our participants at a heavy roman Encampment, ca 73 AD. To this end we have a great number of events which will interest the Roman Reenactor, be they soldier or civilian! This will include a period smithy, Roman Vendors, potter, baker, Presentations, and more. If you have a unique impression you would like to bring and add, please contact us. There is no cost to our participants for any of the events they can participate in or for the encampment itself. The last years have been an outstanding success, and this year will be even better!

Soldiers will get the opportunity to drill and train with double weighted weapons, throw live pila on the pila range, practice live sword (against a post of course!), in addition to participating in Needlefelt mock combat both on the drill field for spectators Saturday, and in the woods on Sunday, you will see the Gladiators in the arena in daylight, and at a special torchlight nightime match just before the Grand Convivia! We will also have Military Games, a 1.5 mile road march (there are Celts about... bring your Needlefelts), guard mount, pay issue (yes, you will get your 75 Denarii... minus a bit for the Centurion...), and more.

The highlight of the event will be the Centurios Convivium, a grande Roman Banquet prepared by our gourmet Roman Chef the Lady Helvia Elena Claudilla, and hosted by the Centurio. Ask anyone about our feast! The food alone is worth the drive! There is no charge for the feast, but we do need to know how many to prepare for.

Average Temperature in November in South Carolina is 65-75 degrees. In addition there are few if any events on the calendar for that period of time. Plus the mosquitos are mostly dead! Legio VI will be onsite Thursday the 3rd to Monday the 7th, but re-enactors should try to arrive sometime Thursday or Friday afternoon unless you are setting up a special event or station. Re-enacting events start Friday night. Vendors are welcome to set up a display, but we ask that they remain in period as much as they are able, and you must contact us as soon as possible. We have limited room for vendors, but will endeavor to accommodate you in the period market, or vendor row if your display is less period. Remember this event is being planned for the participants, so we need you to attend! Please RSVP via EMAIL by as soon as possible, or by October 1st (this is so we can plan the feast). Contact email address for the event is [email protected] or [email protected] .

There is no cost to re-enactors for the event! LEG VI and our armoury, Soul of the Warrior, cover the camping, food, ration issue, pay issue, Convivia, and Entertainment cost out of gratitude to you!! Our friends and customers. We just need YOU to fill the ranks and market!

Extra armor is available for you to bring new recruits or members who are not totally kitted out. We also welcome Civilian impressions, and Earlier and Later Roman Impressions (the event is 73 AD). We welcome all to participate, set up displays, and enjoy the event as well!

It is our sincerest hope you will plan to attend. We will have an excellent time, and want you to be there to celebrate the growth of Roman Living Archeology, at the best Castra Romana EVER! Ask around, anyone who has come will tell you it is a great time and worth the drive. Please visit the website at www.castraromana.com for updates and more details.

Ave!

Salvete!

Planning is well under way, so we hope you have all set aside the first weekend in November! Try to start getting us numbers as soon as you are able (dinner and entertainment this year... better than ever). Look for updates at the castraromana.com website. We also have a Yahoo group there you can join for updates and such. After a busy season last year... seems like this year has been quiet!! Anyone who can come early and help will be fed and housed by Legio VI, just email us if you can make it thursday or friday. The schedule is less demanding this year, and oriented a bit more toward us having fun.

If you would like to do a presentation or have a booth set up for anything, let us know. We have extra tarp space in the market as well as camping space in the field and there is no charge to set up a booth or display. The Arena will look better than ever for our torchlight Gladiator games, and I think it will be a new experience for ALL of us!!

Bring your needlefelts if you have them, as we are moving to a sim-combat realm. Looking for enemies too, if any of you know a Celt, Scotti, Pict or Gaul who may want to come, we have camping space for them set aside too.

If you get an email bounce to this address, there is an alternate at rustyatrpg @ yahoo. com (no spaces though) We had some problems with emails bouncing earlier this year, so may have missed replies or info from you.

If you have a new recruit, we have plenty of armour to outfit them for you, let us know.

A few other surprises too... all to make the event better and better. We will see you on the field!

The code for gate entry is 7979.

Be sure to close and lock the gate behind you!! We are all the way at the end of the dirt road.

See you under the Eagle!

We will be unable to answer email from Wednesday evening to Tuesday of next week.

Anyone else as tired as me? Paul (Quintus) finally went home Monday night... still having trouble finding the floor of the shop!

Thanks to all who came, it was a great time and it was great to see you all again.

Those who did not make it, try to come next year, it is a drive, but it is worth it (well, I am admittedly biased)...

Let's not wait a year... See you soon.

Must be a browser issue, they are 2000 wide, more than a typical 17" screen.

I got images posted from Castra 2003, 2004, and 2005, some from Rome Georgia 2002 (my how far we have come). Sylvania 2004, Nashville 2004, as well as a few smaller events. Even took the plunge and paid $25 a year to host a gig and increase bandwith in photobucket!! (we are nearly halfway there with 600+ pics).

http://photobucket.com/albums/c246/justuslonginus/

Some are really great. some are okay, a few are blurry, but they are all there to review the history of "Our Legions" here in the Southeast (et al in Nashville).

Hope you enjoy them!
