Roman Tools, Hoards and Catalogues
#1
Thought a thread on tools would be a good idea specifically dealing with large catalogues and specific hoards of tools from the Roman era.....

So to start:
An old Catalogue that contains drawings of "mostly Roman" tools although its likely some are medieval see page 257 on its fairly extensive... wood, leather and metal working tools as well as agriculture is covered...

"Catalogue illustré du Musée des antiquités nationales au château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye 1926"

http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k64...esMatieres

Hoards that contain substantial numbers of tools:
"Late Roman tool finds from Celje, Gradišče at Zbelovska gora and Sv. Pavel above Vrtovin (Slovenia)"

https://www.academia.edu/1521694/Late_Ro..._Slovenia_

"A Hoard of Late Roman Metalwork from Belokopitovo, Shumen district."

https://www.academia.edu/3694006/With_G....07_257-264

"Die spätrömischen Hortfunde von der Gora oberhalb von Polhov Gradec"

https://www.academia.edu/949040/Die_sp%C...hov_Gradec

"Three metal-work hoards of the Roman period from southern Scotland"

Hopefully more will contribute

Great idea, especially as I get deeper in to any single craft like woodworking. I think Vindolanda had a catalogue of tool finds, but I don't think I have the book which may be out of print.

Wolfgang Gaitzsch - Eiserne römische Werkzeuge, Teil 1 + 2. I haven't encountered a more comprehensive work on Roman tools.

On woodworking: Roger Ulrich - Roman Woodworking
Stefan (Literary references to the discussed topics are always appreciated.)

Crispianus, could you please change the topic title to "Roman Tools, Hoards and Catalogues"
This will make it easier for future search by members to find the thread again. Also, I was quite confused reading the title... ;-)
Thanks.
