PhilusEstilius... My Father

'his attitude was if he can do it, so can you,'
For a craftsman of his calibre to have that attitude really does say something about the man.

I am with you Stephen...my both parents died of cancer.I only have few memories on my mother but I had opportunity to know well my father. They are not physically here anymore but their mental presence is as alive as before.I mean it like this-people might physically die but it is not the flesh what is the most important thing.Sometimes I can stop and wonder what would my dad probably think of that and that and about my own actions and although he cant say it in person to me anymore I know with a great certainty what he would thought of many scenarios like if he was still alive in this new form.Hold on man!He is not really dead as long as long you remember him.Sounds like a cheap phrase but it is a truth.Best wishes to your family too.

I`m sorry to hear about your dad. I appreciated it greatly that he sent me an article I was looking for for a very long time and that he helped me to make my stuff more authentic. Very kind man. I will miss his presence.

Stephen, my condolences to You, your mother, and the rest of the family.
I first met Brian and Enid about ten years ago, when I picked up the first good armour he made for me, a great Corbridge B/C.
As many have mentioned, he was a man who would share his knowledge and interest with you, and was very humble about his talents.
Your parent were very generous and befriended me from the first time we were in contact.
He was full of knowledge about many things , especially relating to the area around Hadrian's wall, but especially on any topic of Roman craftsmanship.
He even managed to teach me a few tricks of his craft.
He will be remembered and missed!

I only just learned of this and am saddened by the news. Brian and I had many stimulating conversations here on RAT, but I only got to meet him in person a couple of times. On those occasions though, as others have already noted, he was generous with his knowledge and expertise and was a genuinely pleasant person to talk to. I save seen a lot of the metalwork he produced as well and was always impressed by the quality of his craftsmanship - I would love to have been able to watch him work. I am sorry I will not have the chance to meet him again and I humbly extend my condolences and deepest sympathy to you Stephen and the rest of your family.
