Did I hear you correctly in that in one lorica rather than several thin strips of leather, one wide strip was used?

Yes, it's Cuirass 5 in the Hoard (p.39 in the report) where the backplates are held together by one large sheet of leather. I called it the 'original leathering' in the text but I now think that was a poor choice of words as I suspect that it is most likely to be a repair, given the ubiquity of narrow straps elsewhere amongst the armour.
