And the plural of retiaria and secutrix, please?

Groan. The devil is in the detail.

The plural of Thraex is Thraeces. Plural of secutrix would be secutrices. Not sure about retiaria.

Thanks for those. I will amend the ms with those.

I wondered if it might be retiariae?

The singular (if the gladiator is a male, of course) is retarius--meaning "net man". Plural would be retarii. If female, retaria, I guess. And retariae.

Thank you.

I have the book cover image from the artist and it's looking good.

Are people happy to be thanked for this help in the acknowledgements, please?

The artwork is done, just need to sort it out into a "cover" and do a last read-through or two for typos and then I can do the e-book. Thanks very much for all your input.

I already have! In my list of references and interesting sites. (Sounds bad having a list of references in a fiction book, but I thought people might be interested.)

The Gladiatrix as a figure is known, but as far as I know, there were only a few.

The e-book is in the checking stages now. I'm pleased with the cover. Meanwhile I've done a blog post if anyone is interested.

Linda, If I may,

I am a writer of two thrillers (in the Dutch language) and started 2 years ago with the outlines of my novel (also in Dutch) Charioteer.
It is the tale of a charioteer falling in love with a gladiatrix.

Not knowing about the existence of "Gladiatrix" I made some rough sketches similar to the book of Russell Whitfield, as I found out much later.

Whitfield had them (the gladiatrices) fighting naked. Gaius Germanicus (Caligula) could have invented that. Domitianus, I am not so sure.

Could you name to me the garments of a gladiatrix? I would be very grateful.
