Sorry to hear that one of your horses got hurt. Hope it's nothing permanent.

Not permanent we hope, more like 6 months. We were packing up to leave when it happened and it was a sad end to the weekend.

Quote:I just wanted to post up some photos of Comitatus at Wallington over the early May Bank Holiday. It was simply a stunning event on many different levels. The weather was great, the shows were brilliant, the new horses were superb, the client was excellent, and the crowds were fantastic. Over 9,000 people came to see us which was just amazing.
Stunning. I hope you get such shows for the rest of the year, especially with that kind of weather.
What happened to the horse? Not good news, that. :-(

That kind of weather would be priceless. Lots of sun but a cooling wind. We do a mix events and that was designed to be a large event. Others will be a lot less well attendedSmile

The horse was rolling in the dust and rolled into a fence. He's coming on well.

Shame about the horse Undecided do you do lots of other big events similar to Wallington?

Quote:Well, Nijmegen 2005 had 12.000 visitors, in 2008 we had a little bit less, 10.000 and last time, 2010 we had only 8.000, probably due to weather conditions and a major soccer match (somewhere in sout Africa) where our national team was playing on sunday afternoon...

Two weeks ago we had a wonderfull event on the Via Belgica. Shows on 5 spots from Bavay (France) to Velzeke (Belgium). I don't know any exact numbers, but I would say that in general we must have had about 3000 visitors on every show at least. We did 5, so that makes up about 15.000 visitors over the whole weekend.

Xanten attracts between 15 and 20.000 visitors at least. Don't know any other numbers, unfortunatelly.

Wow, the European shows are very well attended!! Put all of the UK events in the shade!!!

Do the audiences ask searching questions or is it the usual - "Is that a real fire". (Comedians, our lot!) like over here in the UK?

Well, first of course I did mention the big events. We've lots of smaller ones as well.

And yes, we also get the usual 'is that fire real' questions.

Best I ever heard was a kid asking a man roasting some trout over a fire, "Are those real fish?" He answered, "No, of course not. Those are specially trained stunt fish. That's much too dangerous for ordinary fish". "Oh. Okay," said the kid, and wandered off, happy.

Oh, those quotes are endless....

'He's eating sausages, the Romans never had sausages...'
'Come away, they're Romans, they killed Jesus...'
'You're not going to sleep in those tents are you...'
'Aren't you a bit thin to be a Roman...?'
etc
etc...

John, I noticed you've replaced Sewerby Hall, August Bank Holiday, with another venue. There are children at my school who are hoping to see Romans then!
