Well, lets set up a poll then.
And Oxford sounds cool to me, too. But not for next year of course.

"I've just got back from a trip to Oxford. How about Oxford in 2013! Pubs, bookshops, lecture rooms, museums and good accomodation."
I think this is s brilliant suggestion.
I've got some good connections here with my old college Trinity and the Classics/ late Antiquity faculty (and may even- possibly- be studying there again in 2013).
For example, I can organise rooms in an Oxford college (cheaper and more fun than B&Bs) if the conference were out of term time, plus access to lecture rooms. And the Ashmolean is one of the great clasical museums. And great pubs. Plus easy to get to from continental Europe, whether by air, train, car or chariot. And central for English RAT people.
I'd be happy to do some organising as well. And if there are any issues with the other areas, happy to have this as a fallback for 2012?

Well said! Cheers Caballo!
The only potential issue to overcome would be the car parking.

Thanks- and Oxford is a nightmare for the car , being still a medieval town in design and many of its buildings. And the traffic wardens hunt in packs to snare the parked car.
But there is a good solution. If you're driving, leave your car in one of the free park and drives just outside Oxford city centre and take the subsidised bus in. Or take the train?

Some hotels etc. have free car parking. The park and ride is easy and things are easier on a Sunday.
I've always wanted to do a show with the horses in an Oxford college on the lawns

I think Oxford would be a great place for a conference (I've been there twice), with lots of opportunities.
However, since the last conference was already in the UK I think it's no more than fair to host it elsewhere. Oxford would be a prime candidate for 2013 or 2014.

Well, thanks everybody for choosing Ljubljana for the 2012 conference.
From today onward I will start assembling the people that before promise me some help in organizing the conference(I hope they didn't forget).
For the dates of the conference I propose the first weekend of February(3.-5.) or March(2.-4.). If you have some different time in mind, please inform me. We will try to make a date, that is acceptable for most people.
If anybody want to present some papers please send me a PM and also if you have some other question fell free to ask everything. I will try to respond to in 24-48h.
About the program, I will try to present some sketch in a few weeks. Also the information
how to get there/sleep there will be available soon.
I hope I will not to crumble under this huge responsibility
Regards,
Miha Franca

Hi,
after some thinking(and rethinking) and some good advices, the more possible date for the conference is
the first weekend in March(3.-4.) 2012. Let me know if the this is suitable for most of you.

Hi all,
don't worry I still here, just everything is going a little slower, because of the summer
holidays.
I manage to get confirmation for 6 lessons, expecting maybe for 2 more(anyone here?).
I found some cheap transportation from the airports http://www.goopti.com/index.php?lang=en
There are some issues, that are still unknown, but before my holidays in early September everything should be ready.
Regards,
Miha Franca

Just to know, what do you think about, if I try to check if we can get some cheaper rooms, if all of you are ready to sleep in the same hotel/hostel/guesthouse/.. This is only a suggestion. And how much are you ready to spend for room(if is not a secret), so I can use as a reference.
Ljubljana is the capital so the prices can be high at some time, but in march and especially on weekends in that period can be much lower.
Like this extreme example. We tried asking in a recently open 4 star hotel(current price is 250 € per night-2 beds room) in march they say the price can be expected to be between 70-100€. Let me know.

Well, I personally don't need to be hosted in a 4-star hotel. A bit less will do as fine. A bit cheaper makes it easier for people to come, although I personally don't need to be in the 'cheapest' place.

Quote:Well, I personally don't need to be hosted in a 4-star hotel.
Of course, that was just an example(when asked about the prices they also send us a offer), from which I didn't newer expected such drastic cut of the price.
From the offers I already have before me, some didn't have any cut, some are cheaper by 5-10€ and so on. I checked some 2 and 3 star hotel(with breakfast) and hostels(they are usually without breakfast). The current prices can be found on the various booking sites.

My reply disappered, strange. So here I go again:
After many years of absence I'd like to join you again  I'd prefer a meeting in March because in February I'd like to go with a friend to Xanten to visit the exhibition on crime in Ancient Rome.
