Roman ship sketches

I'm working on a show for The History Channel and am looking for some sketches of Roman Ships for a certain piece. Does anyone know where i can find some? All I keep finding are Greek ships.<br>

Try Warfare in the Classical World by John Gibson Warry. They have a few Roman Galley layouts ranging from Republican to Imperial periods. . <p></p><i></i>

Yes, Warry's book is your best bet. Lionel Casson also has a book specifically concerning ancient mariners, etc and that may also contain some pictures but I'm not sure. You can find both quite easily on Amazon (and probably the pictures too if they have the "Search Inside!" option enabled for these books). Good luck on the program. <p></p><i></i>

Greek and Roman Naval Warfare by W.L. Rodgers is one of the classics. Originally published in 1937 by the United States Naval Institute. ISBN 0-87021-226-5.<br>

This may be a bit dated, but it does have good line drawings as well as an assortment of photos. 524 pages. Chapter X on Roman Quinqueremes.<br>

Ummm... if your doing stuff with the History Channel, do you have an in with the Hollywood crowd? Like maybe you can drop a dime on them that most of the Roman armor and costumes are horrid. Like a lot of the threads here go on about. Make your career by having them do something right AND save money by using people/equipment thats available?<br>

I'd be very careful with using the reconstruction's in Rodger's books. They are pre-Morrison and therefore include Venetian rowing systems, instead of more probable ancient world ones.<br>
The most recent reconstructional drawings were published in <em>The Age of the Galley</em>, ed. by Gardiner and Morrison.<br>
Can you be more specific of the time of ship and the timeframe we're talking about? <p>Greets<br>
