ROMAN MIDDLEWICH FESTIVAL
#46
Quote:Much appreciated, Graham: one of the ironies of being out there is that cowering under a shield rather spoils ones view at the time - but I can still hear the hoofbeats!

Tell me about it Steve. I did the man on foot fighting the horse routine for nearly 10 years. When I was in Portugal one horse decided to jump over me and apparently walked over my shield! Like you I did not see it but I can tell you that it is when you do not hear the hoofbeats that it is time to worry!

I was especially disappointed that you were not there Paul.

Hello Ian
I have asked Robert / Andreas to post my Gladiator illustrations in the Gladiator Impression thread plus some more Middlewich event pictures here. Thanks to them and I hope you all enjoy the pictures.

Hi Steve

Quote:Yegads! I feel the need for a thicker shield...

That reminds me, on one other occasion the rider actually punched a hasta with a padded tip right through my shield! Unlike your pose I was not even leaning forward at the time I was falling backwards!

I have asked Robert Andreas to post more Middlewich pics including one of you marching.

What's that what you are shouting John?

The second is 'Adiuta-Deus' (or the local Preasidium version  ), I guess?

I *think* John is shouting dominis (probably spelt wrong) and the reply is nostra.

Sorry for not replying sooner. Work is really busy, and exhausting.

I like Roman coins. I have a small collection. The titles of each Emperor are clearly set out on their coinage. When thinking of things to shout, and shouting is good, I generally real off titles etc. Plus we have our own comedy cries to cheer us up.
