There it is- Is there any evidence for an Alexander the Great period edging/ embroidery/ intrinsic weave pattern on a chiton??
Just starting this quest.
Any help appreciated

You might get really dissappointed, but there is strong evidence that most chitons of that period were very plain, even stripeless. Chlamydes had a broad edge of different colour, like 10-15cm wide, but no embroidery is shown on them. You can call this "poor" or "modern art", your choice ;-)

Giannis I really appreciate getting a reply. I had kind of come to the same conclusion as I had ot found anything in art or costume books- but I am old enough to have learnt that there is always something I have missed or do not know about so i have put this query out jic...thanks again....
