Yes, I have heard that rawhide is hard to get. Fortunately in the US it is relatively inexpensive.

I did have a breakthrough with Tandy who have sent me rawhide (at a very reasonable price indeed), and also a source from Europe which was not too expensive. But yes, generally rawhide seems to be very expensive in Europe. At one stage I was even considering camel hide, which is readily available here in Dubai hock:

Yes, Tandy is the way to go. They should be able to sell you a piece big enough to cover your whole shield for $100-150.
