does anyone know if that statue is period to neros time or not. I wondered about that 'style ' myself but was never sure if it was period to the man or not. Also what i am thinking is that if it is correct than it may be the a style of the times that were popular with fringe elements found in the entertainment world. in modern times youve seen the -
beatnik ( spelling ? )
Grunge ( yes again spelling ? )
Goth ( only 4 letters there I THINK i got that one right )
Could have been perhaps like the vanDyke beard a status symbol ( you wouldnt see too many peasants taking the time of day to stylize and neatly trim up ones beard.
It is curious at any rate when almost every other emperor prior to or simce has been shaven ( and there are smooth shaven images of nero ) but the only emperor that I can think of that was known for having a beard was Hadrian. I had read somewhere that it was do to an injury ( scar ) on his chin I believe.

Yeah, Nero had that beard but why is it always claimed that Hadrian was the first bearded Emperor ? :? ?
BTW, I thought Rowdy McDowell really did look like Octavian/Augustus.
