Alamanmuseum Elwanngen shall be closed
#1
Dear Friends,

this Museum, primarliy showing merovingian artefacts, shall be closed in near future because of great gaps in the communebudget.
This is a grat political absurdity. The disabilaty of our Politicians berefts us from our historical heritage! Where else, as in Museums, we can take a look into the older past?

Please vote for preservation of this Museum and use the underneath link...

We´re already losers of the worlds commercial crisis, now we´re going to become losers a second time, when politics will steal our past

I can´t understand such considerations, because culture bears civilisation!
best regards

Hi Nina,

I agree, it would be a great loss.
Could you post that link again? It does not seem to work.

It does. I vote no, as did 93% of the voters..

Maybe, if Ellwangen persists with this, another city should take the museum. Passau, maybe? München?

....just voted for that museum.
But seriously folks, what do you expect?!
The Alamannenmuseum and other museum in Baden-Würtemberg were planned, conceived and built when "Archäologische Ausgrabungen in Baden-Würtemberg" had twice the pages as nowadays, the budget of this particular federal state >EDIT: for historical and archeological affairs, of course < was so high that you could nearly fund the complete czech and polish >EDIT: archeological< budgets of today, and we had a Landesdenkmalamt which got liquidated in 2004 with the remaining parts assigned to the regional governing bodies (Regierungspräsidien).
If I were to go deeper into the backgrounds this thread probably would be locked for "politicalizing". (And I'd have a certain amount of sympathy for that. )
But if I see what scottish government authorities have been planning to do to their universities ( if I got DB Campbell completely right here : link from old RAT) I have my doubts whether we have the right perspective here.
In a fit of pragmatism, however, I'd also say: Stuttgart gets my vote for being a suitable backup.
(Anyway there's already the largest assortment of fibula from the early middle-ages I ever saw )
Robert, -- "schwäbische" property for the Bavarians ?! Confusedhock:
They have already occupied nearly half of the "schwäbische" soil !

Why not? The Alamanni also once occupied almost all of Bavarian soil... except that the Bavarians originated only after the Alamanni left.

I think we should note:
Those declared dead live longer. (Totgesagte leben länger)
http://www.ellwangen.de/2406_DEU_WWW.php (In German)
http://www.ostalbkreis.de/sixcms/detail....=-1&id=219 that one with a preview/guide (In German)
http://www.ostalbkreis.de/sixcms/detail....sfuehrer=1
....and they got at least one interesting exhibition (that has just been prolonged till 23rd of October 2011)
http://www.ellwangen.de/4609_DEU_WWW.php...sh[start]=
"Alamanni on the Eastern Alb -- Early settlers between Lauchheim and Niederstotzingen".
Yes and for those who'd like to support them directly--- they got a shop :
http://shop.alamannenmuseum-ellwangen.de/
Sometimes such things DO have an happy ending. Confusedmile:
If I'm in that area in July I'll probably go and visit them.

Enjoy

....update .
My joy was too prematurely.
Here:
http://www.schwaebische.de/region/ostalb...95955.html
....it says they'll be cutting the additional funding in half for 2012.
They only had ca. 8600 visitors last year (~8350 the year before) instead of 10000 at average as expected 10 years ago when they opened.(They had ~16000 visitors that year, logging a total of 50000 in 2006)
No special exhibitions anymore ?
The custos can't make a living out of his job anymore ( ca. 30% of a full paid job !)
Sad news.
