Hey, was looking for some advice from RAT members in putting together a Late Republican (Caesarian/Augustan ~40 BCE) Tribunus Angustisclavii impression as my next project. This has been a most elusive time period as far as kit goes, so could some RAT members let me know what kind of kit would work for this and some sources: helmet, armor, sword, ect. I want to take my time with this and get it right, so any advice would be great as well as sources for the equipment. Thanks guys.

Hi
There is a reconstruction of one in 'Arms and Armour of the Imperial Roman Soldier', by Raffaele D'Amato and Graham Sumner just published. Plenty of information in there, pictorial and ancient sources but you might not agree with all of it.

Agreement isn't the issue, getting it right is the issue, basically i want to put together an impression to represent Marcus Agrippa at some functions, but I want to have it look authentic and not hollywood make-believe

Hi
Well the book does supply the sources, so you can make up your own mind. At the very least you can say your reconstruction is based on something that does exist, rather than make something up. However if you want an Agrippa impression there is also one in the forthcoming book 'Roman Naval Forces', which is by the same authors which should be released by Osprey before Christmas.

Thanks I will look into it, like you said if there are sources it can be backed up by something. Now to get the book and then find good sources to get the equipment.....
