In viewing the film 'Master and Commander,' my favorite character in the film was the man who portrayed Hollom. It's tragic that he jumped the ship. All he needed was faith. To me, he was more a Man of honor than the rest who were on the ship. The ship's crew thinking of Hollom as bad luck and a sign of Jonah was really an honor, because according to the Bible Jonah was rescued from a whale, and the Lord chosed Jonah to preach to the nation of Ninevah. Hollom reminds me of men who 'turn the other cheek,' and the fact that he was able to do that shows the others what fools they were at regecting this man who could teach them how to overcome adversary. But it was their lost after the lost of Hollom. To me, Hollom symbolized all that that is true and good in this world.
