My model of Gladivs from British Museum - London
I decided to prepare myself (with the little information and pictures that I have ) this gladius. In preparing of the grip/handle I've also used the same model from B.M. of London .

Even in the seventies this handle is shown in the series-film I Claudius! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m83KMQIyYA

The gladivs handles are made from a professional woodworker under my control Wink. The blade is from Deepeeka.
Before to achieving the desired result, I threw five handles that do not satisfy me in terms of quality.
It past three months, with many explanations and examples (with the carpenter master) before I get the desired handles result .

Some of the tools I use Smile..during my creative wax work process.

The main gladivs plate application-the symbol of Rome She-wolf with the twins. Unfortunately I do not have quality photos of the object and use only what is published on the web..it is not very much.

After commenting on the next steps with our blacksmith, I decided to cut (reduce) the relief of the application. To be easier for the (following possible hammering process) of the plate.
So I changed some of the application plate parts. With this changing I approach even closer to the desired final view.

The two wax models I prepared in advance on the scabbard (heating and applying them ) for these actions is required a good knowledge of the material ,so then I can to mount them more precise and easily! Wax thickness that I was able to achieve 1.5 cm.

I have wait for a long time for someone to show me a quality picture of the main plate applications from Gladivs with a she-wolf and twins of the British Museum – London! Since I did not find a quality image ,I decided to make my gladius plate ( as far as it is allowing my accumulated information) in metal casting technology. As I have achieved a very good - Thickness of brass 1.5 cm.

I have the possibility to produce steel matrix (for this model) and to make plates with the hammering method. But for now this is not necessary! Because, I have not gathered enough information for the QUALITY and CORRECT image reproduction .
It should be known that production of the steel matrix is very difficult and VERY COSTLY!
But I am satisfied with this initial stage.Definitely it was difficult for my to obtain thickness of 1/1.5 mm in a metal casting technology on a such large objects 100 mm.

The new "pulling" brackets look very promising! After many experiments I finally managed to find a way to produce bracket on a ancient way by pulling ,twisting and hammering! Ears bending was the hardest thing Smile! Тhickness 0.5 mm . Together with the rings clamp for gladius, diameter 22 mm.

I used as a basis a gladius from Deepeeka-(AH4209). Blade, wooden part and the middle plate are made by them.

The Albion Decurion spatha uses this same handle.
I quite like it!
