It was a lovely site, great event too, many more people on the Monday, English Heritage had to open up an extra field to let more cars in, as the car park was full to capacity.
I was recognised by a family that I spoke to last year, they'd driven up from Chester just to see us again, that's really nice to hear.
The high point was speaking to a load of army cadets that were walking the wall in aid of Help For Heroes (One of our Armed services charity) - they started trying on the kit and having their pctures taken with it.
Lovely bunch of people.
Recently (early May) a few of Britannia ran 5k (about 3 miles) around Hyde Park in aid of Help for Heroes, in early Roman armour with some lads from Scotland Yard's diplomatic protection squad, 10 of them managed to complete the run in very high temperatures, apparently the weight wasn't a problem, but the reflected body heat from the lorica segmentata was almost unbeareable, even with modern materials worn underneath. (I think there's incriminating pictures somewhere
)
Birdoswald's a lovely site, a bit of a hike for us, but worth it, the staff are a lovely bunch of people too, worth a trip, especially for the views.
