Correct Striped Chitoniskoi and Chiton fabric
#1
Khairete,
We've found a source, in Nepal, of correctly woven, stripe woven in, chitoniskos and chiton fabric.

The stripes are woven in natural black wool on natural white. The wool is 100% cashmere with no silk content, and we can get the following sizes:

30 x 80 (small man) $65 USD
34 x 80 (mid-0sized man) $70 USD
36 x 80 (tall man) $75 USD

We've also got him to weave to order for chitons (full length, and women's) and chlamys and himations.

A full length chiton (60 x 90 2 ply, or a summer chlamys) will be $180.00
A chlamys (60 x 90, 4 ply) will be $325.00

We're still pricing the himation. I assume a 4 ply, 60 x 120 inch piece with woven in stripes will go around $500 USD.

By mid-winter, we'll be dying the wool ourselves and mailing it back so that his weavers can put in stripes of Tyrian Purple, blue, lichen dyed red, etc.

Let me emphasize that this is NOT a business. We're just doing this so that Greek reenactors can have better kit. If anyone is interested, contact me by PM. Our first full order will go in July 20th, 2009.
Qui plus fait, miex vault.

Whoops! If you want to order, you also have to be prepared to pay postage. The more of us who order, the cheaper it will be... Postage is about $50 USD per 500 grams from Nepal. It only takes 2 weeks. I'll transship from Toronto at cost--once the stuff is in the western hemisphere, it shouldn't be too bad to the UK or US.
