I remember a description in Marsden's book on Greek and Roman Artillery of a piston powered ballista (which Marsden pretty much dismissed out of hand) but I can't find it now. Anyone know which of the old texts it was in?
Thanks

They actually just showed a recreation of that perticular ballista on the History Channel Series "Ancient Discoveries"

It's in Marsden's Technical Treatises. It 's on pages 152-155 with an additional note (#123) on page 184.
