No Michael. We regard Byzantine as 'Greek' here.

Oh, I see. His question about "roman" equipment threw me off. Carry on.

Well, perhaps Marco is requesting information about military equipment from the WESTERN part of the now crumbling empire. Wink

No? The fact that they were (considered as) Romans earns them their place on Roman Army talk. But the language and geography meant that they were discussed in Greek Army talk (when that had a separate board) and in the Greek section today.

I guess one could defend it going to the Roman sections too, but this was what we decided...

Hmmmmmm....... I was having a ding-dong with a colleague (he's Greek, "Spartan" in fact) the other night, and he reckons Byzantium was pure Greek, not Roman at all in any shape or form.... never was, ever. Now I can't exactly point him here, can I?

Is there a chance to remove all byzantine topics to roman areas and keep only the greek ones here? going so far AD after christianization is kind of irrelevant to ancient greek reenacting.

Themistoklis,

Read the above. While something could be said for treating the Byzantine Empire as 'Roman', the language made it Greek to begin with.

Your argument is valid, but it's as valid for Ancient Greek re-enacting as it is for the Roman re-enatting up to the 4th century. So why would it be be better placed there?

Besides, this section is called 'Greek Military History & Archaeology', not 'ANCIENT Greek Military History & Archaeology'... Big Grin

However, I split this thread from the original one, since it's got nothing to do with the original question.
