Not all his kit is totally authentic, but I think he's portraying a flavian legionary. So, that would last half of the 1st century A.D.

Hmmm - judging by the size and angle of the neck guard on the helmet, as well as the apparent knob on the crown, I would suggest he is trying to portray an Antonine period soldier. He certainly seems to be wearing late second or early third century style shoes. If that is the case though, he must be the most unfashionable soldier in the entire army. In a military culture where the style of belt you wore was what really showed how up to date with the fashion you were, this man has opted for a belt which is nearly a hundred years out of date! I'm not convinced either by the beneficiarius staffhead on the vexilum. I should also say that I nave no idea whatsoever why he is wearing pyjama trousers. Does he think the Romans walked around in casual modern leisurewear perchance? :twisted:
