So I have been searching, and have found nothing other than such an animal existed known as "Sculponae." These are apparently wooden ancestors of the clog, and used by slaves and poor rural folk. Does anyone have any idea what these things looked like/how they were made? Any descriptions/details somewhere that I missed that say something more than just they were wooden soled?
Thanks,
Adam C.

not only for slaves and poor rurals, but also very useable for use in bathhouse on the hot floors!
Don't have any pictures at hand, though, although my group has a set somewhere.

Ah! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Only question I have, is how did they stay on the feet? I can't see any holes for thongs in the picture...maybe they tied thongs around the sole and their feet? The two lifts would keep the thongs from getting stomped on....

Nice! They look kind of like Japanese "Geta". They would keep your bare feet off the floor so you wouldn't get Athlete's foot right? Would they be waterproofed somehow to resist warping?
