I was surprised to see the website of Leg VIII Aug
www.roman.org.uk/ and that they had a large civilian contingent, and a lot of work done on their recreations! And if I didn't know about them, how many don't know about each other? Here's my list of groups, and please throw in as many as you know about, so we can invite them all to the board:
Hello all

For a truer indication of what the LEG II AVG civilians get up to, you might want to go here.
In the UK there are a number of groups where the civilian side of the group is not classed as a separate entity.

The civilian side of some of these military groups has almost in some cases tended to be the part of the group which attracts organisations like English Heritage etc to book the groups for living history events.

In some ways in the UK the element of 'battles' and 'fighting' by Roman groups has faded in preference of the 'whole picture'

The other difference over here is the emphasis on re-enacting life in the frontier provinces rather than that of a persona of Rome ( which If im not mistaken is the USA role? - tell me if im wrong !)

This is the one major difference on this 'Rome' oriented forum which I would as an individual like to see addressed - it should (in my opinion) be Roman Empire not 'Rome'

am I wrong?
What can I say? We USA types have always been geographically challenged.

And I agree, I think the emphasis is shifting to the Rome as an complete world, not just the military, though that is so much that folks want to see. However, if the light switch turns on, and they see that it was more than words in history book, an entire world, that makes it worthwhile to me.

What I should add is, each groups contact information, so we can invite them. I'd really enjoy learning about their events, how they do their clothing and shoes, where they get their pottery etc., and what they specialize in.
