Hello,
when surfing some vendors' sites, I saw the tunic and caligae from deepeeka for sale.
They seem reasonable priced. Or they good, accurate?

Personally, I don't care for either of them.
For a tunic, I make them myself using the attached pattern and instructions.
For caligae, I would recommend making them yourself using the instructions here:

I don't know that I've ever seen their tunics but there have been several people here on RAT that have purchased the caligae. I know I've heard of some sizing problems and such. Please check a recent thread by Wes(he's selling his in the vendor's section) and others on these. Maybe it depends on the individual. However they are fairly easily made yourself or some custom makers are very reasonable.
(looks like I was a minute late. I totally agree with Edge, though.)

As for accurate - definitely no. See e.g. here for what original caligae looked like. There's more information about caligae if you do a search on RAT, btw.

You mean fragile? Well, if you're used to what the vast majority of 1st cent. AD reenactors are wearing you may think them fragile. If you take 3-4mm strong leather and cut the strips to around 5-6mm width you will find that they are strong enough (not to speak of looking like the real thing ;-) ) )

Just for my two sesterti,
I think that Edge's pattern is fine as an example to copy, although I would suggest that a tunic should hang to mid calf when unbelted. I put a piece on making and wearing tunics in the 'Beginners' section on Reenactment and Reconstruction which you might want to have a look at, and of course a look through Graham Sumner's 'Roman Military Clothing (1)' is highly recommended.

I recently got Graham Sumner's Roman Military Clothing 1...a very nice little piece of information.......gotta love good books!!
I am getting ready to make up a couple of tunica, some in red linen and 2 in white wool, let me know if you need one, I can easily make up another.

Could not agree more -- and my tunic pattern DOES hang to mid-calf when unbelted -- trust me. :lol:
I look pretty funny in one until I "blouse" it with a belt.

I am pleased that you liked the book and found it useful. However for accuracies sake it would be better not to have coloured linen. The ancients generally left their linen un-dyed.
Hope you have not started making the tunics as it would be better to have them in white linen and red wool!

I have 2 Madder red tunics tha I just finished, getting ready to do some white as well. My wife got me the red linen for my Birthday, and since I really like the red look, I was going to make them from it. I guess its backto the drawing board!!
Now, where did I leave my natural lien left over from making breeches................lol
