Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Agraes - 02-25-2010 Let me think... I guess that's two thirds of our trouser-clad soldiers  I have the project to put on a 5-6th century early irish impression aswell. When Ill be done with my 5th century saxon, 9th century breton, 10th century breton and 11th century breton  Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - M. Demetrius - 02-25-2010 Well, who would be likely to get close enough to hear the naughty things being said? No, don't answer.  Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Paul Elliott - 03-07-2010 Two Pics: and harvesting (OK not a warrior, a farmer...): Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - jvrjenivs - 03-07-2010 Very nice, Paul. I also like yout torque Also good to see more civilian activities (done by men of military age). We happen to have less of that on most events. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Paul Elliott - 03-07-2010 Jurjen, my preference is for civilian crafts rather than military, though I do have a shield and spear ready for when the clan is called to war by the chief! I'd like a sword, though, for when I do wear that rich cloak and torc. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - M. Demetrius - 03-07-2010 I'd like a closer look at that hand sickle. I've got that on my to do list for someday in the future, as a part of making bread from seed to crop to harvest to flour to oven. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Paul Elliott - 03-07-2010 Certainly .. I'll dash out now .... Its a generic design, not based on a particular British iron-age find. But its a very effective design with a nice long handle. Made by a local blacksmith specialising in the Saxon-Viking period. On my to-do list is getting hold of a rotary quern and grinding my own wheat, not quite so seed to bread as your project though. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - M. Demetrius - 03-07-2010 Thanks! I'll estimate that the "circle" is about 12" or so, and the handle around 18", with the widest part of the blade being ab out 1 1/2". Is that pretty close? Around 1/8" thick at the unsharpened side back by the base? I'm not trying to hijack the thread, though. My project will take about a year or so to complete, since I have to make the tools to till before I plant, harvest before I thresh, you know. There's always something else to do...not to mention the three or four months for the wheat to come to maturity. Might be able to get a start this Spring. If you'll PM me with an email address, we can move any other questions off line. We now return you to your Celtic warrior impression thread. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 03-15-2010 That is a nice torque, a member or our group has one that looks very similar If my memory serves me. Nice impression. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Caturix - 03-31-2010 Noble Celtic Warrior of the Cenomani, III a.C. It's not a personal recontruction, but of a friend of mine, of the reenacting group "Suliis as Torc" from Vicenza. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Paul Elliott - 04-20-2010 Nice! Is that deerskin on your cloak? Its hard to make out. I love your mail, with the doubling and leather edging. Nice. Re: Show here your Celtic warrior impression - Virilis - 04-20-2010 Great impressions, Gioal & Paul!
