It's an extract from this (not entirely accurate) documentary:

Re: Documentary on Thermopylae - hoplite14gr - 07-20-2007

Exactly "not entirely accurate".

The terrain, the shields the undrarm thrust....

Even the best of this channel seem to have the objective of being spectacular rather than accurate.

Kind regards

Re: Documentary on Thermopylae - Marcus Hortensius Castus - 07-20-2007

I especially liked the part where the historian says, "There were no smart bombs, no shooting the enemy, back in those days you killed your enemy face to face as he tried to kill you."

Really, no smart bombs?! I'm astounded. I thought the Royal Spartan Air Corps had that one down...

They were using, as well, a modded version of RTW for the spartan/greeks. Roma Surrectum's team made their phalanx overarmed.

Re: Documentary on Thermopylae - Casmin - 07-20-2007

I can't access Youtube from work but if it's the same video I'm thinking of then yes it did take a lot of liberties. IMO, it was catered to people who saw "300". It had a similar style of darkness.

Re: Documentary on Thermopylae - Marcus Hortensius Castus - 07-20-2007

I don't think so. I saw that one, too. This one was created earlier, methinks.

This particular one was a bit off, yes; but not as much as the one that came out later after "300." that one was horrendously innaccurate.

Re: Documentary on Thermopylae - Zenodoros - 07-25-2007

This is from the Decisive Battles series, a pretty miserable show that aired late 2004 or so.

There are a lot of mistakes in it has been mentioned, but it's not nearly as sinful as 'Last Stand of the 300'!

Re: Documentary on Thermopylae - Mythos_Ruler - 07-25-2007

I don't know why these shows "jazz up" history, when the real thing is much more interesting, and the reason believe they go to the History Channel...
