When are the last mentions in ancient sources of limitanei, comitatenses and palatini?

Ooh, good question. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that the term palatini was still being used in Carolingian times, hence 'paladin', but obviously it's meaning changed - ref from the Osprey 'Carolingian Cavalryman'.
Comitatus seems to be used in Tacitus' sense by modern authors in Anglo-Saxon contexts, but I don't know of any period uses. Mmmm...

The problem here is that in the East they would after some time begin translating the names into Greek. You would have to find out how long these translations were used in the Greek sources.

Out of curiosity? How did the term palatini evolve into paladin…and who were they?
