finally got around to making a mate for my celt/germanic shoe. i based my pattern on the one with the heel cup pictured on the vicus(sp?) site. i prob need to soak these in some oil to seal the leather good against the wet ground.

Are those of a military style Chuck? Is tehre anything similar that the legionarys would have worn? I want to make a calceus but don't have a leather form.

Most probably not. Roman shoe finds all have a more elaborate pattern/technique.

na these are simple 1 piece shoes. they can be found from ironage till i think 17thc irish. some places i believe left the fur on the leather too

No, unfortunately not. It is late 2nd and 3rd century. For early 2nd century this shoe from the same site would be ok e.g. The shoes with fishnet upper (see a few threads here on RAT) are also late 1st/early 2nd century AD.

That one could be made in the same fashion as the one he gives in the tutorial right? Although where does one get one of those "toe" forms for when the leather is drying?

Yes, I think so, but if you have a chance, use a last. You might be able to find old ones your size on ebay. You could also check my thread on the Mainz calceus over the next few days to get a few more tips on this.
