Second Punic War - Roman Belts - caiusbeerquitius - 02-22-2007

I am looking for some evidence about Roman military belts during the second punic war. I know the sources are quite bad, but I´m sure some of you have some ideas? Smile

Yeah, my idea is that there isn't enough information! All seriouness aside, there are the bits from Numantia, which of course are only *presumably* belt plates. I used some of those on the belt for my gladius hispaniensis:

I can't help thinking that the whole idea of a plated belt may have derived from the old Samnite manhood belt, a solid strip of thin bronze with a leather backing/edging. But yeah, we don't know what came between!

Sorry, not much help...

Matthew

Christian,

Attached is a photo of a balteus I did for a Republican impression. Plates are very plain.

As Matt states above, the sources are very thin on the ground for this item.

Edge
