Second Punic War - Roman Belts - caiusbeerquitius - 02-22-2007 I am looking for some evidence about Roman military belts during the second punic war. I know the sources are quite bad, but I´m sure some of you have some ideas? Re: Second Punic War - Roman Belts - Matthew Amt - 02-23-2007 Yeah, my idea is that there isn't enough information! All seriouness aside, there are the bits from Numantia, which of course are only *presumably* belt plates. I used some of those on the belt for my gladius hispaniensis: http://www.larp.com/legioxx/hispan1.jpg I can't help thinking that the whole idea of a plated belt may have derived from the old Samnite manhood belt, a solid strip of thin bronze with a leather backing/edging. But yeah, we don't know what came between! Sorry, not much help... Matthew Re: Second Punic War - Roman Belts - Gaius_Calvus - 02-26-2007 Christian, Attached is a photo of a balteus I did for a Republican impression. Plates are very plain. As Matt states above, the sources are very thin on the ground for this item. Regards, Edge Re: Second Punic War - Roman Belts - Gaius Marius Cingetorix - 02-26-2007 Previous discussion, helped me a bit link from old RAT |
