Pugio Scabbard - Primvs Pavlvs - 02-20-2007 To follow up my recent pugio I thought I would finish up the scabbard this morning. I reworked the one that came with it. I was going to tin plate all the pieces, but I decided against it for now. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p309 ... 020143.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p309 ... 020144.jpg Also heres a couple other small pieces I made. The knife is just a small utility knife based on Roman styles. Its around 9 cm long. This is for my wife. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p309 ... 020145.jpg I also made this awl since everyone seems to need to add extra holes to belts, or seg straps after the winter. It is not based on anything in particular. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p309 ... 020146.jpg Re: Pugio Scabbard - Christophorus Rubrum - 02-20-2007 Great, you ve done a amazing job, would like to be able to do the quater of what you ve done  Congratulation Re: Pugio Scabbard - FAVENTIANVS - 02-20-2007 WOW! Re: Pugio Scabbard - Magnus - 02-21-2007 Looks good paul! Re: Pugio Scabbard - Primvs Pavlvs - 02-21-2007 Thanks Guys! Christophe, Its not as hard as you would think. It just requires having the right tools, and knowing how to use them properly. Re: Pugio Scabbard - Virilis - 02-21-2007 Looks very, very good, Paul! In fact it reminds me of one beautiful pugio made by Godfrey Knight, if I remember correctly... Re: Pugio Scabbard - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-21-2007 Plus somewhere decent to do the work, you forgot to mention that Paul! Nice pugio! Re: Pugio Scabbard - Crispvs - 02-23-2007 Nice work all round Primvs. Of course the frame of the sheath should really be iron but if you were to tin the brass as you have suggested you might the underlying brass would not be so obvious. My usual advice about terminal expansions applies here as well. You really need to put a rivet through the terminal expansion. The Titelberg sheath that yours appears to be based on has quite an unusual rivet in this poosition. Well done on a very good job so far though. Crispvs Re: Pugio Scabbard - Robert - 02-23-2007 Hi guys, what's the date on this piece, please? Re: Pugio Scabbard - LVCIVS VVLPES - 02-23-2007 Paul, nice work here you have the Titelberg dagger, it will give you a better idea what Crispvs means [img][/img] Luc Re: Pugio Scabbard - Magnus - 02-23-2007 Anyone have any pics of finds of decorative rivet heads the romans used? Re: Pugio Scabbard - Cornelius Quintus - 02-26-2007 Ave Paul, very nice and far better than the standard version! I'll try that, too with my second one. |
