Hamata ring metal color - Doc - 02-16-2007

I know that chainmail rings that have been found for Hamatas or Plumatas are either iron or bronze.

The question I have is are the hamata and plumata bronze chainmail rings a yellow bronze (I do not mean brass but a true bronze) or are they reddish bronze.

I know that they could be both. I am just wandering which of the two colors has been found.

The reddish bronze is available today as phosphorus bronze. But from what I gather, yellow bronze is quite difficult to obtain in coil or sheet form that could be used to punch out bronze rings.

What modern bronze (not brass) comes close to the color of yellow Roman Bronze?

Does anyone carry a yellow bronze similar to the Roman Bronze color and composition.

Thanks

Paolo
