There are a couple out there, IIRC one of Mike Bishops early books from Shire Archaology had a reconstrcution in it. Celtiv Warriors ?

Re: British War Chariot 50 BC - Lugorix - 02-15-2007

The reconstruction in the Shire book is a 1:8 scale model!

A number of us have discussed at length how we'd build a full scale chariot, and it still comes up from time to time. We've come to grips that we aren't going to have any horses any time soon, never mind an appropriate breed to pull the thing. Making the wooden parts and harnesses, etc. is easy. The only difficult part is shrinking the tyre on the wheels, but wheels can be custom ordered affordably. Yea, if we had horses, we'd be riding.

Nice work Johnny! The helmet even feels right on this picture. I like it very much.

.

I seem to remember a picture on the front with a full size job ?

I aslo recall seeing a TV programme ( time team ? ) where platform was seen as "free floating" on leather or rope suspention.

The reconstruction of the Wetwang (Yorkshire) chariot can be seen here. It is the one they reconstructed for the BBC.

As you can see the frame was NOT solid wood but bent staves. The floor/platform was suspended and made of woven rawhide strips for a more stable platform.

The horses would have been very small fast ponies too. Probably not as big as in Johnny's beautiful painting.
