DragonSkin body armor- made of composite ceramic/titanium, etc. scales that's totally flexible, and actually stops 7.62x33mm ARMOR PIERCING (steel core) rounds- and based on one of the most ancient forms of armor... scale.
actually if you consider that repitles have had protective scales for hundreds of millions of years, I guess it's one of the oldest types of armor there is

I read once that the Kevlar helmets will stop bullets but still pack enough kinetic energy to snap the head to the side and break the neck.
What we need are force fields.
Oh yeah and phasers, teleporters, and warp-drive too.

I think the idea is to protect mainly from shrapnel, and small arms fire.
