Help please, looking for an article - Martin Moser - 01-21-2007

Hi,

I'm looking for this article:

Driel-Murray, C. van (1977) 'Leatherwork' in J. K. Haalebos, Zwammerdam Nigrum Pullum, Cingula 3, Amsterdam, 249-281

Does somebody have access to this article and could get me copies of it in some form, electronic or other? I'll of course reimburse you for any expenses.

Re: Help please, looking for an article - Martin Moser - 01-21-2007

Hm, while I'm at it, maybe somebody can help me out with this one as well:

Miller, L. B. and Rhodes, M. (1980) 'Leather' and 'Leather Footwear' in Jones, D. and Rhodes, M. Excavations at Billingsgate Buildings 'Triangle', Lower Thames Street 1974, London and Middlesex Archæological Society Special Paper 4, 95-128

Many thanks in advance, everybody!

It's not one of the articles you're looking for, but maybe you could find it useful for your leatherwoks research:

Preliminary report on the leatherwork from Roman Berenike, Egyptian Red Sea Coast (1994–2000)

The excavations at Berenike during the 1994–2000 season yielded various finds of skin and leather. Leatherwork is one of the neglected fields in the study of ancient Egypt and it is therefore that this paper presents the leatherwork from this important site, even though the material has not been studied in as much detail as would be necessary. All discussed objects were excavated from early Roman rubbish layers.

Hi,

I've contacted the Museum of London Archaeological Service for
Excavations at Billingsgate Buildings, Lower Thames Street, London 1974
by David M Jones (Investigation of the Roman riverside wall. 169p, 92 figs (LAMAS 1980))
ISBN-13: 978-0-903290. If they have a copy at the Museum of London, I'll go over and get you a copy.

Also, Oxbow UK seem to have a copy for £4.95!

Cheers

Attention Jim Tarbicus!

This has a load of preserved parts of Roman leather water bags which we discussed a while ago!

Ah, anyone interested in this should also look at:

Yadin, Y., 1963. The Finds From the Bar Kokhba Period in the Cave of Letters. The Israel Exploration Society, Jerusalem.

There are one or two leather skins in there, quite complete and many detailed pictures. They were last used as documents containers, though, IIRC

Martin, should you go to Künzing for the Fischer lecture in March - and should I be there, too - could you make a copy of Driel-Murray 1977 and Miller&Jones 1980 for me? I would certainly cover the expenses! Smile

(hmmm... IF I can attend the lecture, maybe we could exchange copies of a number of articles, anyway...)

Sure, if I ever get the van Driel article that is ...

Let's keep it in mind!
