Yup, that´s a really bad book. BUT, it gives you a sort of a summary overview. You just have to be able to seperate good from bad. "critical method" that is. Smile Wink
If you are new to the third century, it´s still worth reading (not buying), I´d say. Also it is very nice to find all the mistakes in the book step by step while you read more other stuff about the period. Big Grin

Re: Roman Infantry Equipment: The Later Empire [ILLUSTRATED] - Robert Vermaat - 01-19-2007

I say buy it half-priced or less if that's on offer. A nice book to have as has been said by the others, but no believe all he writes! Too bad his books are selling so well - this is his third for Tempus.. Cry

Paul, when is your book going to be published so we can heavily promote it? Big Grin

maybe - Caius Fabius - 01-19-2007

try to get it via interlibrary loan, you'll see why it is not a recommended book, in fact I don't appreciate any of his Late Roman books, and the illustrations are horrid.

Re: maybe - Gäiten - 01-26-2009

What is so bad with that book?

IMHO it is well written and the author is presenting his ideas very reasonable.
