Corinthians depicted their allies also in their vases.
This person is a hoplite of the Mora of Sparta proper carring avariation of the Chalkiokos Athena "Gorgoneion".

Kind regards

Hehe, gioi, what do I see there?Your beloved "ear" corinthian?
And it's ok you turned the hoplites to the right, but now the mountain is the opposite than real Thermopylae( and for God's sake, why do all artists copy Connolly even in the landskapes) but also they're now holding their shields with the right hand Smile

thanks for the warm welcome Gioi!!!nice to be here!!!so much info
take care

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - hoplite14gr - 11-02-2007

Well Gioi the "thalassa" you mentioned is wrong if the image is supposed to depict Thermopylae but "corrects" if depicts operations in the Thracian or Ionian coast.
If the second factor applies even shield devices are correct!!!

Kind regards

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - Giannis K. Hoplite - 11-02-2007

The thing,Stefane,is the the mountain behind is indeed thermopylae Smile

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - Giannis K. Hoplite - 11-02-2007

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - hoplite14gr - 11-23-2007

Nicely made Archaic Arkadian leader. His shield device excludes the possibility of being Dorean. Was a sword included in the kit?

Kind regards

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - dimgall - 11-23-2007

Thanks Stefanos !!!no sword in the kit.

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - hoplite14gr - 11-23-2007

If you scratch build ti then the longer version of the hoplite sword fits the period.

Best...

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - Giannis K. Hoplite - 11-23-2007

Ver very nice. One of the few times I like the boeotean shield(perhaps because I see an orignal device found in olympia?). Only one flaw and this is not Dimitris' fault. The crest should be transverse. I have seen it like this some times and this is because the sculpture from the Siphnian treasure it was designed after is a bit confusing.
