Haha..imagine then how tough Lakedemonians had to be to make these run away ....

Seriously, the particular city-state was not of that big importance as all Greeks used, more or less similar equipment. The point was "Osprey movement" vs Museums. Idea

Honestly we did have a particular city-state in mind. But as there was no good enough Lakonian bronze shield device in museums, the original intended simply painted gorgoneion in picture(one in this post) looked too...cheap and....evanescent...for an "professional" elite of ancient Greece. So until we manage bronze device gorgoneion or dokana etc.this is it... :? roll:

PS:I made a profile of my own.

Re: Share Your Greek Artwork - hoplite14gr - 11-06-2009

Pausanias describes about Phigaleia in detail.
Imagine my shock when I saw the shield in Olympia!

There is a Laconian gorogneion in the Archeological Museum in Athens.
Another source is the Chigi vase gorgoneio.
PM me if you want the image of Athens Museum.
Spartan shielddevices here:

The "L" was after 418 B.C.
From which museum is the gorgoneio that you posted?

Kind regards
